Premiere: Tall Heights Debuts New Single “Locked Out”
Juniors Coming January 14th
Sep 21, 2021
Indie duo Tall Heights has come a long way since starting as buskers in Boston. In the intervening decade, the pair of Paul Wright and Tim Harrington has been building their sound on the foundation of their distinctive vocal blend and creative chemistry. That chemistry has been on full display this year with the band’s new string of singles, leading up to the pair’s upcoming record, Juniors. Last month they shared with their latest single, “Hear It Again,” and today the band is back with another effort, “Locked Out,” premiering with Under the Radar.
Following the soaring windows-down road trip anthem of “Hear It Again,” “Locked Out” sees the band exploring subtler soundscapes. Bursts of twinkling guitars and lush swelling synths introduce the song, while Wright and Harrington’s glassy harmonies trace plaintive confessions. Befitting the band’s name, “Locked Out” steadily builds to soaring wistful heights. The duo’s vocals enlace over top of towering percussion as the pair lay bare cries of fear, loss, and hesitant hope.
Wright says of the track, “‘Locked Out’ recalls a dark moment in my marriage, when my wife was experiencing intense anxiety, and I felt powerless to help her. Like many of the songs on the upcoming record, Tim and I wrote this one in the midst of a turbulent year for us, as we mourned passing family memories, weathered family health crises, prepared for more babies, and departed from the home we had shared for six years. We poured all of that real-time dread, sorrow, and hope into our daily writing sessions together. And I think it speaks to just how involved we are in each other’s lives that we could sit down together during a time of such chaos and contribute equally to a song that is so deeply personal to me.”
