Festival International de Jazz de Montréal 2014
Festival International de Jazz de Montréal kicks off this Thursday, June 26. We’ll be in the city, eating too much poutine and checking out the legions of Under the Radar-friendly acts performing. Yes, it’s called a “jazz” fest—but we’re in it for artists such as Beck, Rufus Wainwright, and Thus Owls, who were kind enough to contribute to our ongoing mixtape series.
“Thus Owls is often described as a transatlanitc band with roots in both Sweden and Canada because we started out in Stockholm and then slowly made our way to Montréal,” says the band of their history/mix picks. “Along the way we’ve managed to create this beautiful little collective of musicians around us. So we thought we should give you a little taste of what these two countries is all about musically, from our perspective. So we wanted to introduce you to our friends and the amazing music they make. They have all been a great inspiration, advisors and have supported us throughout the years. There are obviously also the bands we’ve been or are part of, like Patrick Watson, Josef & Erika and The Moth, but this time we wanted to show you something else. So here you go! Sweden VS Canada!!”
Listen below. The band’s new album Turning Rocks is out now on Secret City Records.
