LA-based indie outfit veronicavon have spent the last few years crafting their glittering nocturnal shade of dream pop. Songwriters Chris Hackman and Xuan Nguyen create songs that feel fit for both insular bedroom headphone listening and driving through a moonlit neon cityscape, filled with fuzzy synth textures and driving hooks. The band shared their debut album, Deep End, last year, and they returned this year with a pair of new singles, the gauzy bedroom pop of “Dipped” and the haute sophistipop of “Riptide.” Today, they’re sharing another new track, “MONNNEY,” premiering early with Under the Radar.

“MONNNEY” represents another shift for veronicavon, keeping up the blissed out melodic currents that shape their music while leaning harder than ever into their electronic influences. The track finds the band turning the bedroom into a rave, lacing Nguyen’s feathery vocal melodies with club-ready drum machine beats and airy synth tones. The band finds a sweet spot between dream pop and ‘90s electronica, luxuriating in the joys of lush synth washes and pillowy hooks. Nguyen’s lyrics are similarly luxe, offering tongue-in-cheek celebrations of riches and excess: “Money / Beautiful money / Dripping like honey / Money for me / I want a big, I want a big payment / I’m gonna get, I’m gonna get paid tonight”

The band says the track is about “The thrill of getting paid. *Real* paid. ‘MONNNEY’ is a futuristic homage to the club beats of the high 90s • fashion, paparazzi, glamour, and fame. Next-level bass, relentless beats, and elegant synths flow seamlessly together in this irresistible dance-floor scorcher. The cherry on top is an addictive chant-chorus that triumphantly spells out what we all want: MONNNEY.”
