Los Angeles-based multi-instrumentalist, singer, songwriter, and producer Wyndham Garnett has shared the lead single “Spark” from his forthcoming album A Fistful of Stars and we are pleased to premiere it. “I move like water most of the time/Sometimes you hit a rock, but you move on down the line,” Wyndham croons over a breezy backdrop of slide guitars and plangent horns. The song is a mantra to self that serves as a reminder of inner strength and takes its sonic cues from the soft palate of 1970s folk rock. Check out the track and a pre-order link to the album below.
Wyndham had this to say about the song: “I grew up in New York City and while there’s so much about that town I love, something about its general nature or maybe just my personal demons there, often leave me feeling like I want to run as far away as possible. ‘Spark’ was written upon my return home after a series of travels. I was scared of losing the joy and freedom I had discovered while away, imagining somehow that it didn’t belong to me, but to the places I had seen. I have always found affirmation in the music I love and as a songwriter I often seek to enliven the sentiments I need to hear. This song became that for me: a reminder that I already have everything I need and that the beauty I see in other things can just be a mirror of that, instead of a totem to what I feel I lack.”
A Fistful of Stars marks Wyndham’s third solo album, coming after 2016’s Double You. He is also an original member of Elvis Perkins in Dearland and Diamond Doves, and a former touring member of Clap Your Hands Say Yeah. This album sees him collaborating with acclaimed producer/engineer Sean O’Brien and features performances from Omar Velasco (Jonathan Wilson, Amo Amo), Shane Mckillop (Gardens and Villa, Amo Amo), Nate Walcott (Bright Eyes), and more. Recently, Garnett has been collaborating with musician and actress Lola Kirke, producing her self-titled EP and debut LP Heart Head West. The duo also recently released a pair of Christmas songs in November which will soon be followed by another pair of songs this February.
