R.E.M. Completes Recording of 15th Studio Album
Jackknife Lee Again Produces. Patti Smith Rumored to Guest.
R.E.M. have put the finishing touches on their 15th studio album, slated for release in Spring 2011 on Warner Bros. Records. It was thought that the band had wrapped the recording back in July, but they apparently had one last session in them, reconvening at Blackbird Studio in Nashville last month, where they were joined by Patti Smith, who’s rumored to have guested on at least one of the tracks. Earlier sessions took place in Berlin at Hansa Studios, where David Bowie’s Heroes was recorded, and in New Orleans at The Music Shed. The record is the follow up to 2008’s “return to form” Accelerate, which found the band rediscovering their guitar based roots, and is again produced by Jacknife Lee (U2, Snow Patrol, Bloc Party, The Editors).
