Rare Radiohead Demo Cassette To Be Auctioned

1986 Tape Features Six Unreleased Songs

Jul 19, 2013 Radiohead

A rare piece of Radiohead history is scheduled to go up for auction this September. NME reports that an early Radiohead cassette, recorded in 1986 when the band was still known as On a Friday, will be put for sale by Omega Auctions. The organization’s auctioneer Paul Fairweather says he expects the item to exceed $1,500. “It has come directly from an old friend of the band who was at school with them at Abingdon School,” says Fairweather, explaining the tape’s origin. “We have copies of his school yearbook from 85/86 showing him and all four members of the band.”

The demo features the tracks “Fragile Friend,” “Girl (In the Purple Dress),” “Everybody Knows,” “Mountains (On the Move),” “Lemming Trail” and “Lock the Door,” as well as remixes of “Fragile Friend,” “Lemming Trail,” and “Lock the Door.”

Over the years, several of these songs have made their way online. Click below to listen to “Lemming Trail” and “Everybody Knows.”
