Things are starting to look brighter for Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings after an unfortunate run-in with a volcanic ash cloud. That may have grounded plans to play on The Late Show with David Letterman, but the funk-soul train keeps on chugging. Last night it stopped over at the very hilarious, The Colbert Report.

Ms. Jones sat down for an interview with the comedian/political pundit and discussed her old jobs as a corrections officer at Rikers Island and a wedding singer. She also defends her old school recording style. After a commercial break, she joins her band for a rousing rendition of “She Ain’t a Child No More” from their great fourth LP, I Learned the Hard Way. (Gotta love that surf guitar.)
