British post-punk band Snapped Ankles are releasing a new album, Hard Times Furious Dancing, on March 28 via The Leaf Label. Now they have shared its second single, “Pay the Rent.” The song tackles the cost of living crisis in the UK and especially how that affects people in the arts. Listen to the song below.
In a press release the band’s Ankle Austin says the new song is “dancing at the misery of the situation.”
The press release adds that Brexit “has compounded issues and made life as a touring band almost impossible to sustain.”
Tomorrow (Friday, February 21) at 10 a.m. GMT Snapped Ankles are launching their GoFundTrees campaign here. It aims to address some of the issues discussed in the song, and, as the press release explains, “will allow fans and the general public the opportunity to understand the true cost of touring in 2025, as well as providing opportunities for them to donate funds to the band ahead of their upcoming tour.” Perks of GoFundTrees include an on an online HIIT session and the option to go to “a furious dance party” in Epping Forest. There will also be exclusive merch and the chance to purchase “one of the band’s infamous Ghillie Suits.”
Previously Snapped Ankles shared the album’s “Raoul,” which is also below.
The band’s last album, Forest of Your Problems, came out in 2021 via The Leaf Label. Read our review of that album here.
