As we earlier reported, Scott Weiland, former frontman of 1990s alternative rockers Stone Temple Pilots, died in his sleep last night on his tour bus. He was found on his bus at 9 PM last night in Bloomington, Minnesota, before he was supposed to perform a show with his current touring band The Wildabouts at Medina Ballroom. No cause of death has been given yet. Weiland has struggled with substance abuse in the past. Now the rest of Stone Temple Pilots (Eric Kretz, and brothers Dean DeLeo and Robert DeLeo) have issued a statement about his passing. Weiland left the band in 2013. Here’s the statement:

“Dear Scott,

Let us start by saying thank you for sharing your life with us.

Together we crafted a legacy of music that has given so many people happiness and great memories.

The memories are many, and they run deep for us.

We know amidst the good and the bad you struggled, time and time again.

It’s what made you who you were.

You were gifted beyond words, Scott.

Part of that gift was part of your curse.

With deep sorrow for you and your family, we are saddened to see you go.

All of our love and respect.

We will miss you brother,

Robert, Eric, Dean”

This doesn’t really seem to be a statement about his passing as much as a somewhat generic statement made because oh shit, we gotta say something. At least all the response has come quickly, as opposed to Layne Staley’s situation in which no one even knew he was dead for two weeks.
