Indie band Sunday (1994) has unveiled their latest single, “Softly,” a beautifully introspective track from their forthcoming deluxe EP, an extended version of their self-titled debut, set to release on September 6th.
With “Softly,” Sunday (1994) delves into dreamy, jangle-pop soundscapes, skillfully capturing the profound attachment of early romance and the bittersweet pain of brief separations. The song conveys this emotional depth through a quiet, persistent ache and tender longing rather than an explosive or overt portrayal.
The band describes the track poignantly: “‘Softly’ is about the first time he left for the airport or the dreaded moments alone while she’s at the grocery store. Being apart can feel like ‘my neck to the knife, softly.’”
This new release follows “TV Car Chase,” a quintessential Sunday (1994) track that highlights their signature blend of dark humor and hopeless romanticism, which is very much in evidence here.
