Britpop outliers and survivors Super Furry Animals are celebrating the 20th anniversary of their weird and wonderful 1996 debut album Fuzzy Logic with a 20th anniversary reissue. It comes with 35 bonus tracks, including the album’s B-sides, two separate 1995 demo sessions, and their set at the 1996 Phoenix Festival. Now they have released a previously unreleased demo version of “The Man Don’t Give a Fuck,” a song that didn’t actually appear on Fuzzy Logic but was released as a standalone single after the album was out. The demo tapes were nearly destroyed in a fire at the studio, so we’re lucky to be hearing this at all! Check it out below, followed by the reissue’s full tracklist and the Welsh band’s upcoming U.K. tour dates in which they will be performing their first two albums (Fuzzy Logic and 1997’s Radiator) in full back-to-back. The band is also releasing on November 4 a new 2-CD best of entitled Zoom! The Best of Super Furry Animals 1995-2016 and that tracklist is below too.

Frontman Gruff Rhys had this to say about the reissue in a press release: “The reissue is radically different to the original, some songs have alternative beginnings and endings and people will notice the difference in definition, especially in high resolution digital and the new vinyl cut. 1995/6 was an overwhelming whirlwind of touring, gimmickry, and mayhem for us so it’s been a real treat to take some time to relive and reassess all these songs and compile everything that we recorded in that short, magical period in one place. In the unfamiliar environment of a big studio, Fuzzy Logic didn’t end up sounding anything like what we’d had in our heads for those years of songwriting building up to it, but it does have that undefinable vigour and energy of youth which isn’t included in the price of hiring a multitrack studio.

“At the first opportunity we returned to Gorwel Owen’s own studio, Stiwdio Ofn, to re-record ‘Something 4 the Weekend,’ the version that’s included here, as it was on the original U.S. version. The demos included are just that - rough sketches - often with repeated, rough lyrics - but they do offer a key to understanding where the songs came from, where we were at, what was to come, and sometimes, what could have been.”

Super Furry Animals archivist Kliph Scurlock added: “What’s here as a result is just vastly superior in every way. It’s less compressed and has more dynamic range than the original release. The full frequency range that was on the tapes has been maintained, so it’s not just high and low end with very little in between as was on the original mastering. As such, you can actually hear a BAND playing and the air in the room they recorded it in.”
