Under the Radar magazine is hosting an online charity auction for the Japan relief effort that starts today and features Okkervil River, Menomena, Owen Pallett, Telekinesis, Surfer Blood, Hooray for Earth, and Porcelain Raft. These seven artists performed at the second of Under the Radar‘s two SXSW parties this past March, and they all autographed three different posters for the event. The three posters are being auctioned off separately, with each poster accompanied by other goodies, including CDs and vinyl from each of the bands, top-of-the-line headphones from Shure, subscriptions and bags from Under the Radar, and a guitar donated by Hooray for Earth. Those who want to bid should visit these links for the three auctions:

Auction 1 (eBay item # 230607087609).

Auction 2 (eBay item # 230607093432).

Auction 3 (eBay item # 230606755632).

The devastating earthquake and tsunami hit Japan the week before SXSW, and Under the Radar decided on the day of its second SXSW party to have all the performing bands autograph the posters backstage. The party took place on Friday, March 18, 2011 and was presented by Shure (other sponsors included Jeremiah Weed, PRS Guitars, Dorado Music Packaging, First Second Books, Motormouthmedia, and Cravedog). All proceeds from the 7-day auction will be sent to the Japanese Red Cross Society for its medical and rescue needs.

Each auction package includes an autographed poster, an Under the Radar JanSport Elefunk bag (worth $65), and a one-year subscription to Under the Radar. Two of the auctions include the Shure headphones and one features an Ibanez RX guitar donated and autographed by Hooray for Earth frontman Noel Heroux. The guitar was given to Heroux to fix up by friend and photographer Drew Innis, and now the band has generously donated it to the auction. “I recorded a few songs [on it] and grew quite fond of it, and am now extremely happy to donate it to this cause,” says Heroux. “I asked Drew too about donating it and he was like ‘hell yes,’ so I wrote hell yes on it.” The SRH550DJ Headphones from Shure deliver full-range audio performance, comfort, and durability for DJ use and personal listening, and are valued at $99.

In addition, each auction will include the following:

You guys know how to organize a charity action, these items will definitely sell out very quickly. There’s another great charitable initiative on http://singforhope.org/, meant to help people in need, whether in hospital or not. Our efforts can make their lives better, even if is just for a period of time.
