Australian indie rock band The Belair Lip Bombs have announced their signing to Third Man Records, becoming the first Australian act on the label’s roster. The news coincides with the worldwide reissue (excluding Australia and New Zealand) of their critically acclaimed 2023 debut album, “Lush Life.”
The signing comes on the heels of a string of successful performances for the band, including appearances at SXSW, a sold-out headline show at The George Tavern in London, a support slot on BBC 6 Music, and packed sets at The Great Escape festival in Brighton.
Expressing their enthusiasm about the partnership, The Belair Lip Bombs stated, “Signing with Third Man has been a dream come true for us, especially as the first Australian band on the label. Everyone at the label is a legend, and their dedication to each release is inspiring. We’re thrilled to join the Third Man family!”
The album showcases the band’s expansive indie songwriting, led by vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Maisie Everett (guitar, keys) and supported by a talented trio consisting of Mike Bradvica (guitars), Liam De Bruin (drums), and Jimmy Droughton (bass).
Recorded at Naarm/Melbourne studios Head Gap and Singing Bird, “Lush Life” benefited from the expertise of engineer Nao Anzai (Floodlights, Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever) on mixing and mastering duties.
Explaining the album’s title, Maisie Everett elaborated, “The title ‘Lush Life’ is a recurring theme throughout the record. The lyrics often explore a yearning for something unattainable, without necessarily pinpointing its exact nature. ‘Lush Life’ embodies the idea of a perfect world where everything is effortless, yet it’s ultimately an illusion.”
“I strived for perfection, and we experimented extensively in the studio with melodies and harmonies,” Everett continued. “It was a very enjoyable process. However, touring commitments with another band at the time made recording a non-linear experience. Ultimately, I’m glad we took our time – the album turned out exactly as we envisioned.”
Currently available on digital streaming platforms worldwide, “Lush Life” will receive a physical release on October 18th, featuring a standard black LP and a limited-edition opaque pink LP. Pre-orders are available [Link Here].
The Melbourne/Naarm-based band is currently working on their highly anticipated follow-up album, slated for release on Third Man Records in 2025.
