Scottish indie pop duo The Cords have shared their third single, “When You Said Goodbye,” taken from their forthcoming self-titled debut. The track is a bittersweet pop song, heavier and more reflective than the band’s earlier singles while still carrying their sharp sense of melody. Eva and Grace Tedeschi certainly demonstrate a confidence in songwriting that feels well beyond their years.
Since forming in 2023, The Cords have moved quickly. A cassette single and a Christmas flexi earned them attention across the indie pop underground, and they have already performed with The Vaselines, Shonen Knife, BMX Bandits, The Go! Team and Camera Obscura.
Their debut album was recorded in six days with Jonny Scott of CHVRCHES and will be released on September 26 through Slumberland and Skep Wax. Across ten tracks, the sisters draw from influences such as Dolly Mixture, Heavenly, Shop Assistants and Tiger Trap while giving the C86 tradition a sharp and energetic update. From the punch of opener “Fabulist” to the closing ballad “When You Said Goodbye,” the record sets out The Cords as a band with a clear identity and a growing ambition.
