The cast of Suicide Squad

Director David Ayer (End of Watch, Sabotage, Fury) recently tweeted out a very exciting photo from the first script read-through for his highly-anticipated Suicide Squad. The photo shows Ayer himself, Joel Kinnaman (Rick Flagg), Will Smith (Deadshot), Adewale Akinnouye-Agbaje (Killer Croc), Karen Fukuhara (Plastique), Margot Robbie (Harley Quinn), Cara Delevingne (Enchantress), Jai Courtney (Captain Boomerang), Viola Davis (Amanda Waller), as well as new additions like Neighbors star Ike Barinholtz and Adam Beach from Flags of our Fathers. Most noticeable of this photo is the absence of Jared Leto, who’s set to play the Joker. Despite his not being in the photo with the rest of the cast, an equally interesting picture was also tweeted by Ayer revealing Leto with the Joker’s trademark green hair and holding a camera as he recreates the infamous The Killing Joke comic book cover by Alan Moore and Brian Bolland. Production on Suicide Squad will begin very soon and it will premiere in theaters on August 5, 2016. (via Superherohype.com)

Early Friday morning, Netflix finally made the entire first season of Marvel’s Daredevil available to stream. Starring Charlie Cox as the titular Man without Fear and Vincent D’Onofrio as the villainous Kingpin, this series sees the Marvel Universe venture into dark and gritty territory not unlike Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight Trilogy. The violence is brutal, the depiction of New York City in the wake of the events of The Avengers is frightening, and the subject matter the script tackles is alarmingly dark. Marvel’s Daredevil should make for fantastic binge-watching as well as a thoroughly entertaining companion to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It was recently reported by Deadline that the minds behind The LEGO Movie and the 21 Jump Street movie (and its sequel), Phil Lord and Christopher Miller are set to write Warner Bros.’ The Flash. As of now, the pair are only set to write the script but it remains a great possibility that Lord and Miller could still direct the film as well. The Flash will star The Perks of Being a Wallflower star Ezra Miller as the main hero, although it’s unknown which incarnation of the character that will be. The Flash races into theaters March 23, 2018 just ahead of Avengers: Infinity War Part 1 on May 4. (via Superherohype.com)

Following the global success of the latest installment in the Fast and Furious franchise, Furious 7, director James Wan is in tentative talks to direct Jason Momoa in 2018’s Aquaman. Presently, the film is in development as two different screenplays, one by Gangster Squad’s Will Beall and 300: Rise of an Empire’s Kurt Johnstead. Considering Wan has previous engagements in the forms of the sequel to his 2013 horror film The Conjuring and possible future Fast and Furious installments, his involvement in the Aquaman solo film is not yet set in stone. In the meantime, Jason Momoa will first bring the King of Atlantis to life in Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice released on March 25, 2016 and then in Justice League: Part One on November 10, 2017 before Aquaman hits theaters on July 27, 2018. (via Hollywood Reporter)

Director Bryan Singer has officially confirmed young British actor Ben Hardy will play Angel in next year’s X-Men: Apocalypse. This character was previously played by Ben Foster in 2006’s X-Men: The Last Stand. In addition to this announcement was some very intriguing concept art for this character, although it appears to be showing the evil incarnation, Archangel, as created by the film’s main villain Apocalypse. Instead of Angel’s traditional alabaster, feathered wings, the concept images show his wings to be dark gray and metallic. It will be interesting to see the transformation of this seemingly heavenly mutant when X-Men: Apocalypse hits theaters on May 27, 2016. (via Superherohype.com)

News regarding the epic, two-part Avengers: Infinity War has just broken that Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely will write the scripts to the closing films of Marvel’s Phase 3. Markus and McFeely are no strangers to the MCU as together they have written all movies in the Captain America trilogy, including the upcoming Captain America: Civil War, they helped to re-write Thor: The Dark World and created the ABC series “Marvel’s Agent Carter.” Avengers: Infinity War Part I hits theaters May 4, 2018 with Part II coming out May 3, 2019 with Joe and Anthony Russo (Captain America: The Winter Soldier) set to direct.
