Tom A. Smith has shared his new single “I Don’t Blame You”, the standout from his freshly released EP Say What You Want, out now via Fiction Records.
The track pushes Smith into new territory, built on an electronic pulse but grounded in groove and immediacy. “I wanted to make something that didn’t take itself too seriously,” he says. “I self-produced and mixed the track and I wanted to keep the new electronic sound whilst also concentrating on the groove. We’ve been playing it live over the summer and it’s been a lot of people’s favourite.”
Its video, directed by bandmate Katie Anderson, channels that same playful spirit, pairing the track’s sleek sound with a DIY, tongue-in-cheek visual edge.
The EP itself sold out its vinyl edition within three days and shows Smith broadening his palette. Alongside “I Don’t Blame You,” it features the dancefloor-ready “Fashion,” outsider anthem “What,” and a reimagined version of “It’s All Over” by cult ’90s band The God Machine.
Still only 21, Smith has already played Glastonbury, Radio 1’s Big Weekend, and supported artists ranging from Sam Fender to Elton John, who invited him to open his Hyde Park show in 2022. With Say What You Want, he’s stepping confidently into the next phase of his career, testing boundaries while keeping melody at the heart of it all.
