Tricky and Martina Topley-Bird To Perform Seminal Album “Maxinquaye” at Sundance London
Performing Together for the First Time in 15 Years
Feb 27, 2012 Tricky and Martina Topley-Bird
Sundance Institute and The O2 today have announced that musician and producer Tricky will reunite on stage with vocalist Martina Topley-Bird for the first time in 15 years to perform his award-winning debut album Maxinquaye in its entirety on April 27. The performance is scheduled to take place at the first-ever Sundance London as part of the four-day festival’s music program.
Breaking onto the musical scene after writing and performing on Massive Attack’s critically acclaimed and multi-platinum album Blue Lines in 1991, Tricky is still best known for pioneering the Bristol trip-hop scene of the early ‘90s, with his 1995 debut Maxinquaye selling over 500,000 copies, earning top slots on numerous best-of-year lists, and getting shortlisted for the Mercury Prize. Topley-Bird was a constant fixture in Tricky’s work, performing the vocals on numerous other recordings until a falling-out occurred between the two’s professional and personal relationship (the two had been romantically linked). Since the pair’s split each has worked on a number of various solo projects.
