Warpaint have announced a new album and shared a new song which is funnily enough titled “New Song.” Heads Up is due out September 23 via Rough Trade. Below is “New Song,” followed by the tracklist and cover art. The band also have some Fall tour dates, which are also below.

Jacob Bercovici produced the album with the band. He had worked on the band’s debut EP Exquisite Corpse. The album was recorded in multiple locations: the House on the Hill studio in downtown Los Angeles, their own home studios, and Papap’s Palace. For the first time ever they recorded in pairs and alone rather than as a full band.

Drummer Stella Mozgawa had this to say about the album in a press release: “The doors were a little more open in terms of what was accepted and what wasn’t, because we were sharing ideas so rapidly between us. The roles that each of us individually had-or had established-were a little more malleable.”

Bassist Jenny Lee Lindberg had this to say: “Everybody was allowed to have their space, time and creative freedom with songs and figure out, ‘I wonder what the best notes would be? I wonder what the best part would be to play?’ Everybody got to sit and go, ‘What do I want to do on this? What’s my part? What’s my role? How can I make it the best?’”

Lindberg also had this to say: “I feel really proud of what we made-almost surprised and shocked. When we were making it, I was like, ‘I wonder what this is going to sound like? How’s this going to come together?’ I love the way that it came together so nicely. I feel so proud of it, and like it’s an evolution of our band. It sounds like a mature version of Warpaint.”

The press release says the album is influenced by Janet Jackson, Björk, Kendrick Lamar, and Outkast.
