Legendary singer/songwriter/poet Leonard Cohen‘s death was announced on Thursday even though he actually died last Monday. Car Seat Headrest (aka Will Toledo and band) posted to Twitter when Cohen passed away and linked to Cohen’s song “Field Commander Cohen,” from 1974’s New Skin for the Old Ceremony. Now Toledo has covered the song live and of course fan video has surfaced. It’s an extended take on the song that starts with just Toledo but then the full band comes in. The song then morphs into Car Seat Headrest’s “Cosmic Hero.” Below is Car Seat Headrest’s original tweet on Cohen, followed by the cover and Cohen’s original song.
Car Seat Headrest released their new album, Teens of Denial, back in May on Matador. Also feel free to read our recent interview with Car Seat Headrest’s Will Toledo.
