At a Brooklyn Comedy Show

Last night Lauren Mayberry, frontwoman of Scottish electro-pop trio CHVRCHES, took part in a comedy show at Brooklyn’s Baby’s All Right venue. The show included standup sets from Greg Barris, Dave Hill, Seaton Smith, and others, but Mayberry wasn’t there to tell jokes, instead she performed a set of cover songs with a backing band. She did Don Henley’s “The Boys Of Summer,” Miley Cyrus’ “Wrecking Ball,” and Ben Folds Five’s “Brick.” There were all pretty straight covers and of course a fan shot video of it all, which you can watch below.
CHVRCHES released their well-received second album, Every Open Eye, last year via Glassnote (it was #9 on Under the Radar‘s Top 100 Albums of 2015 list). CHVRCHES were on the cover of one of our print issues last year and you can read the in-depth 8-page 5,600-word cover story feature on the band here. You can also read our bonus digital magazine Q&A with them here.

Great to see Lauren having some fun while CHVRCHES take a well deserved break before recording their third album. She’s quite funny with her onstage banter at CHVRCHES shows so maybe a stand-up spot will be next for her we hope.
