David Bowie is releasing a brand new 7-song LP entitled Blackstar (but styled as ★) tomorrow, Friday, January 8 (which is Bowie’s birthday). We’ve already been treated to the amazing sci-fi video for the album’s 10-minute long title track and the album’s second single, “Lazarus.” Now a video for “Lazarus” has dropped. Johan Renck directed the clip (he also helmed the “Blackstar” video). The new video is almost just as strange, starting with Bowie in a hospital bed with bandages over his eyes (and buttons on his eye sockets).

Renck commented on the video in a press release: “One could only dream about collaborating with a mind like that; let alone twice. Intuitive, playful, mysterious and profound… I have no desire to do any more videos knowing the process never ever gets as formidable and fulfilling as this was. I’ve basically touched the sun.”

Blackstar was recorded at the Magic Shop studio in New York with local jazz musicians and is the follow-up to 2013’s excellent The Next Day. Part of the album’s title track has been used as the theme song to the British TV heist drama for Sky Atlantic, The Last Panthers.
