Watch: First Aid Kit Cover Simon & Garfunkel’s “America” on Letterman
A Song Letterman Would Sing to His Son
May 08, 2015
First Aid Kit
David Letterman is soon ending his long run as the host of the Late Show and has been doing all sorts of special things. Last night, as well as having Tina Fey jokingly strip down to her underwear, he had Swedish sister duo First Aid Kit on to cover Simon & Garfunkel’s “America.” The reason was very personal, it was a song that he used to sing his son at bedtime (the other song was “Stand By Me,” by the recently departed Ben E. King, which he recently had Tracy Chapman on the show to cover). First Aid Kit’s rousing rendition was backed by a string section. Letterman was visibly touched.
It’s not the first time First Aid Kit have covered the song, last November they released a tour video featuring their cover of “America.”
Watch the performance below, including Letterman’s introduction.
