Watch First Clip from “Sherlock” Christmas Special Set in Victorian London

To Air on BBC and PBS and Screen in Select Movie Theaters

Jul 10, 2015

Sherlock is returning this December with a one-off Christmas special. Unlike the regular show, which takes place in contemporary London, the special will be set in the Victorian time period of the original Sherlock Holmes novels. Benedict Cumberbatch returns as Holmes, as does Martin Freeman as Dr. John Watson. Both are certifiable movie stars now, so it makes sense that the plan is for the special to also screen in select movie theaters around the world, as well as airing on the BBC in England and PBS in America. The first clip from the special has been released in conjunction with the show’s Comic-Con panel yesterday. It doesn’t tell you much about the plot, but does show off the Victorian setting.

It’ll certainly be interesting to see the characters transplanted to the character’s initial stomping grounds, but fear not, Sherlock will be back in the world of cell phones and the Internet soon enough: a three-episode fourth season set in contemporary times is in the works for 2016.
