On NBC Show Maya & Marty

Maya & Marty is a somewhat new NBC variety show starring Maya Rudolph and Martin Short that features a theme song from Jack White. Actress Emma Stone appeared on last night’s season finale and her and Rudolph covered Robyn‘s 2011 song “Call Your Girlfriend.” Instead of featuring traditional backing instrumentation, Stone and Rudolph sat at a table and used empty butter tubs and clapping as means of percussion. It was reminiscent of the scene in Pitch Perfect where Beca Mitchell (Anna Kendrick) auditions for the a capella group by singing the 1931 Carter Family song “When I’m Gone” using only plastic cups as percussion (this version is thus referred to as “Cups”). Watch Stone and Rudolph’s fun performance below.
