Watch: Metronomy – “Month of Sundays” Video
You May Feel Sick Watching It
Sep 09, 2014
Metronomy
If you tend to suffer from extreme bouts of motion sickness then watch no further (or pop a Dramamine), as the camera in Metronomy’s new video for “Month of Sundays” never stops spinning and turning. Joseph Mount and his band are in some sort of concrete tower block, dressed in matching blue and white outfits, releasing balloons, and climbing stairs that, thanks to the whirling camera, M.C. Escher might approve of. Camera technique-wise it’s all a bit reminiscent of Pulp’s “Do You Remember the First Time” video, although not quite as glamorous.
The clip was shot by Callum Cooper and produced by Julia Reed and John Hassay. A press release says that it’s inspired by WWII memorials in the former Yugoslavia called the Spomeniks, which were also featured in Angus McBean’s photos of The Beatles on their red and blue album covers.
Mount had this to say about the song in the press release: “Someone once suggested that a song had been written about me by a disgruntled ex-girlfriend. I’m not sure if it’s true. But, if it is, this is my response to her and it.”
“Month of Sundays” is taken from Metronomy’s fourth album, Love Letters, which is out now via Elektra. The band launches their North American tour tomorrow and all those dates are below the video.
