Mos Def
In a new video hosted by The Guardian, musician/actor Mos Def, aka Yasiin Bey, is force fed through a feeding tube. The procedure is standard operating procedure for Guantanamo Bay detainees currently on hunger strike. In the video, a tube is shown being lubricated and then forced into Bey’s nose before he protests and begs for the process to stop. He refuses a second tube, and then the video cuts to Bey describing the painful experience.
The video, directed by Asif Kapadia in a collaboration with Reprieve, is released to coincide with the beginning of Ramadan, when Muslims worldwide practice fasting throughout the day. Guantanamo officials have denied requests to stop force-feeding during Ramadan, but will only hold the procedure after dark to meet religious standards.
Watch the video below, but be warned, it is disturbing.
