“Spend the holidays with someone you hate” is the tagline on the new trailer for Quentin Tarantino’s next film, The Hateful Eight, which is due out this Christmas. Fittingly, it’s his eighth film. Tarantino wrote and directed the movie as per usual. Somewhat like his last film, 2012’s Django Unchained, this one is a western (although Tarantino referred to Django as “a southern,” due to its setting in the south). But based on the trailer, The Hateful Eight seems somewhat back-to-basics for Tarantino, with a more focused scope than Django or the Kill Bill movies.

The Hateful Eight is set after the Civil War in snowy Wyoming and stars Samuel L. Jackson, Kurt Russell, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Walton Goggins, Demián Bichir, Tim Roth, Michael Masden, and Bruce Dern. Russell is a bounty hunter escorting a prisoner (Leigh) bound for a hanging. He and the other characters get trapped in a blizzard and tension ensues as they all vie for the reward on Leigh’s head. Ennio Morricone will be scoring the film, his first western score in 40 years.

Tarantino almost abandoned the film in the development process when an early version of the script was leaked to the Internet. But he soldiered on and the film is due out in 50 select theaters in the U.S. on December 25, 2015 in 70mm and nationwide January 8, 2016 via the Weinstein Company. Check out the new trailer below.
