Watch: Nick Hakim – “Bet She Looks Like You” (Live ATO Session) Video
Ahead of SXSW & North American/Canadian Tour
Mar 10, 2017
Fresh nightingale out of Brooklyn by way of D.C. Nick Hakim has breathed some life into the soul game, stepping in like the introduction of a sick new member of The X-Men. “Bet She Looks Like You” is the deeply echoing, vivacious and throwing first single from his upcoming debut album Green Twins and the live video was released today. The swing step of the live video version throws it up a few tics in tempo from the album recording. Shot in B&W, it looks like they found the perfect room for acoustics, shut the windows that framed passing subway cars in the background and filled it with a groove that moves with the mood of their good spirits.
Hakim is about to lift spirits at SXSW with a number of performances and then set out on a North American / Canadian tour. This should build plenty of anticipation for his debut full-length album Green Twins, out May 19th on ATO records.
As described in the press release, “Hakim’s debut comes as the culmination of years chiseling his skills as a musician. Hailing from Washington, D.C., he grew up in a musical household—his older brother introduced him to bands like Bad Brains and Nirvana, and his parents exposed him to Nueva canción—while he set out on his own to discover the DC music scene. He didn’t take an interest in learning an instrument until high school, when he taught himself to play the keys. After graduation, he moved to Boston to continue his study of music. In the time since moving to Brooklyn and setting to work for three years on Green Twins, he embraced the live circuit, both as a solo musician and with his band, whom he’s brought together from within his community in Boston and New York.”
