Ricky Gervais has taken a lot of heat lately for his ball-busting host appearance at the 2011 Golden Globes, and it seems like no one in Hollywood (at least, those he shamelessly took cracks at) is being that chummy with the snarky British comedian. But, he will always have Steve Carell.

On last night’s episode of The Office, Carrell bumped into Gervais in the halls of Dunder Mifflin’s office complex, and what could have been a horribly offensive disaster—this is Michael Scott we’re talking about—flourished into a friendly banter. It looks like it’s love at first sight for Michael Scott and David Brent (the original irreverent, more-or-less incompetent boss).

Even though Gervais created the Office series, which initially aired on BBC and ran for two seasons before it was brought over to America and re-casted/written for a new audience, this previously announced cameo is his first appearance on the American show. It only took him seven seasons to move in front of the camera but hopefully, Gervais will be back for more.
