Preacher
AMC has found enormous success adapting Image Comics’ The Walking Dead and now they’ve gone back to the cult comic book ink well and taken on Preacher. The original comic was created by Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon and was published by DC Comics’ imprint Vertigo (iZombie, Y: The Last Man, Fables) from 1995 to 2000. Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg are producing the adaptation, which is due to premiere on the cable channel in mid-2016. Last night during The Walking Dead the first trailer for Preacher premiered and you can watch it below.
Preacher centers on Jessie Custer (played by Dominic Cooper), a small town Texas preacher who gets merged with a supernatural entity (Genesis) that gives him the power of the “word of God,” which means people have to do what he tells them to do. He travels the country with his ex-girlfriend Tulip and an Irish vampire named Cassidy to track down God and find out why he has abandoned us all. The trailer downplays the supernatural elements, leaving some fans online to already question the show’s faithfulness to the source material. But it’s just the first trailer and hopefully the producers are saving some of the more demonic scenes for future trailers.
