Watch: Zooey Deschanel Sing The National Anthem at The World Series
A Very She & Him Christmas Out Now via Merge Records
Oct 24, 2011
Zooey Deschanel
Last night singer/actress Zooey Deschanel sang The National Anthem, “The Star-Spangled Banner,” for game four of the 2011 World Series in Texas. She was billed as the star of New Girl, her hit new TV show that airs on Fox, which is not so coincidentally also airing the World Series.
There are two videos below, each edited differently. The first one showcases Deschanel, with the camera mainly focussed on her. In the second one Deschanel only gets a few seconds of screen time in the beginning. After that, the camera pans out to everyone and anything but her, including some military helicopters that did a fly-over and former President George W. Bush. Bush was there to throw out the first pitch and was greeted with cheers (if the game had been held in a “blue state” city, I wonder if there would’ve been some boos).
It’s not the first time Deschanel has sung at a baseball game, also check out this video of her singing “God Bless America” at a Giants vs. Philies game in San Francisco last year that her husband, Death Cab for Cutie’s Ben Gibbard, also sang “The Star-Spangled Banner” at.
Today, She & Him (Deschanel’s band with M. Ward) is releasing their holiday album, A Very She & Him Christmas.
Check out Deschanel’s “The Star-Spangled Banner” videos below.
