British quartet WU LYF are releasing their first new album in 15 years, A Wave That Will Never Break, their long-awaited sophomore album, on April 10. Now they have shared a new song from it, “Fool,” fittingly shared on April Fools’ Day. Listen below.
The band collectively had this to say about the song in a press release: “‘The Fool’ is one of those special songs that just appeared almost fully formed whilst jamming in the weeks before we went into record with sonic boom. It is a simple, sweet love song that leans into rock ’n’ roll cliché, giving voice to the archetypal holy fool—one who yearns after their lover as a path toward union with the divine.”
Sonic Boom (formerly of Spacemen 3) produced the album, which was recorded at Lisbon’s Namouche Studios. The album will not be available on regular streaming services, but will be released via their website.
The band collectively had this to say about the album in a previous press release: “With the help of you all we have written, recorded, and produced the long awaited second WU LYF record.
“The vision for the L Y F has been with us since the start; way back in 2010 when we first sold the white on white bandana with the Heavy pop / Concrete Gold 12”. We foresaw a community of like-minds that would gather around the flame of our music, and through whose direct support we could operate with freedom, autonomy and the truth; to play our own (infinite) game—alas we were young, foolish, and didn’t have the means or the infrastructure for the impulse to reach its full potential.
“Now 15 years later here we are—the initial version of the L Y F membership platform has been an experimental proof of concept—we have learnt a lot from it over the past year and behind the scenes we have been building Version 2.0.”
WU LYF reformed last year and in January they shared the album’s first single, the 11-minute long song, “Tib St. Tabernacle,” and announced their first North American tour dates in 14 years. “Tib St. Tabernacle” was one of our Songs of the Week. Then when the album was announced they shared its second single, “Love Your Fate,” which was one of our Songs of the Week.
In 2025 the band shared the new song “A New Life Is Coming,” their first single in 14 years, and played some shows in the UK and EU. The song isn’t on the new album.
WU LYF broke up in 2012 after releasing their only album, 2011’s Go Tell Fire to the Mountain. Frontman Ellery James Roberts went on to form LUH (aka Lost Under Heaven) with Ebony Hoorn. LUH split up last year, making space for the WU LFY reunion.
