Last night from a hotel in Amsterdam Chromatics’ Johnny Jewel couldn’t sleep, so he decided to login into SoundCloud and upload over 30 minutes worth of unreleased material taken from the band’s recording session for this year’s excellent Kill for Love.

In a letter written by Jewel the tracks were recorded between November 2009 and December 2011 and were all mixed between 4 and 6 a.m. According to Jewel, “After hours of tracking at the studio in Montreal, we’d clear the channels on the mixer, open a bottle of wine, & feel around in the dark…working our way through the atmospheric elements & peeling back layers of rhythm…throwing the songs into the abstract pile & playing them while driving home in the snow.”

In addition to the new tracks you can also watch a recently released music video by Desire, a collaborative project of Jewel’s with Montreal singer Megan Louise. Titled “Tears From Heaven,” the grainy film footage was directed by Alberto Rossini.
