Father John Misty Comments on His Taylor Swift/Ryan Adams Covers in New Interview

A couple of weeks back Father John Misty (real name Josh Tillman) made fun of Ryan Adams covering Taylor Swift’s 1989 in its entirety by covering Ryan Adams covering Taylor Swift, but in the style of The Velvet Underground, briefly posting covers of “Blank Space” and “Welcome to New York.” He quickly took them down and people wondered why. In a new interview with Louisville, Kentucky radio station 91.9 WFPK (via Pitchfork), Tillman explained how it all went down.
There was no grand plan, the whole thing came together on a whim. Tillman had never really heard Swift’s 1989 but overheard his manager listening to Adams’ cover album and decided to record two covers. He was surprised when it all became such a big deal so quickly. “From conception to a global news item was like an hour,” said Tillman.
