The 2020 Grammy Awards nominations have been announced and they are surprisingly solid by Grammy standards. There are actual good albums up for Album of the Year, including the newest by Vampire Weekend, Bon Iver, and Lana Del Rey.

Bon Iver’s “Hey Ma” is up for Record of the Year and Lana Del Rey’s “Norman Fucking Rockwell” is nominated for Song of the Year. Best Alternative Music Album finds Big Thief, James Blake, Bon Iver, Vampire Weekend, and Thom Yorke all competing. Calexico and Iron & Wine are up for best Americana Album. Sure, the Best Rock Album category is a joke (Bring Me the Horizon, The Cranberries, I Prevail, and Rival Sons up against the only halfway decent nominee, Cage the Elephant). And the Best New Artist category is strong if you’re into pop (Billie Eilish, Lil Nas X, Lizzo, Rosalía, etc.), but is short on any artists you’d classify as rock or alternative. The nominations in the biggest categories are below (for an even longer list visit the Grammys website).
