Grammy Awards Announce Nominated Artists
Daft Punk, James Blake, Vampire Weekend Up for Contention
Dec 09, 2013 Daft Punk
With its 56th annual awards ceremony taking place Sunday, Jan. 26, the Grammys announced its official list of nominees over the weekend. As with every nominees list, the included contenders ranged from the well-deserved to the WTF.
Electronic duo Daft Punk earned a number of notable nominations including Album of the Year, Best Pop Duo/Group Performance, and Record of the Year for “Get Lucky.”
Daft Punk were also nominated alongside newcomers Disclosure for Best Dance/Electronica Album.
The event’s most indie rock-friendly category, Alternative Album of the Year, featured The National (Trouble Will Find Me), Nine Inch Nails (Hesitation Marks), Vampire Weekend (Modern Vampires of the City), Tame Impala (Lonerism), and Neko Case (The Worse Things Get, the Harder I Fight, the Harder I Fight, the More I Love You).
Adhering to the Grammy’s eligibility rules of releasing one album but no more than three, James Blake even scored a nomination for Best New Artist.
David Bowie, Jack White, Alabama Shakes, Queens of the Stone, also picked up nominations for the awards show.
For those wondering why a band like Arcade Fire didn’t make the cut, the Grammy eligibility period doesn’t coincide with the actual calendar year, taking in albums and songs released between October 2012 and September 2013. For the full list of nominees, click here.
