Director Robert Rodriguez has released the trailer for Machete, which stars Danny Trejo and was co-directed by Rodriguez and Ethan Maniquis. Machete originated as a fake trailer in Grindhouse. This real trailer mixes footage from the original fake one with new footage from the finished movie. The trailer’s release is timed with today’s Mexican-American holiday and references the controversial Arizona immigration law. “This is Machete with a special Cinco de Mayo message to Arizona,” says Trejo at the start of the trailer. This “illegal trailer,” as Rodriguez puts it, showcases the film’s timely tagline: “They just fucked with the wrong Mexican!” Machete has an eclectic cast: Michelle Rodriguez, Jessica Alba, Cheech Marin (as a gun-toting priest), Lindsay Lohan, Jeff Fahey, Robert De Niro, and yes, Steven Seagal, to name a few.
