The National’s frontman Matt Berninger has teamed up with former Menomena member Brent Knopf (who also records as Ramona Falls) for the new project EL VY. The duo will be releasing their debut album as EL VY, Return to the Moon, on October 30 via 4AD. Below you can watch the lyric video for the album opener and sort of title track, “Return to the Moon (Political Song for Didi Bloome to Sing, With Crescendo).” The song is a little looser and funkier than most National tracks. The band have also announced some tour dates, which are also below.

“This record is more autobiographical than anything else I’ve written, but the details aren’t true,” said Berninger in a press release. “It’s written in the voices of a few invented characters, composites of different people-myself, my wife, and other people I was thinking about.”

The National’s Bryce Devendorf and Menomena’s Danny Seim also joined up last year as Pfarmers, making this the second collaboration between members of the two bands (even though Knopf isn’t really in Menomena any more). Check out the EL VY song, album tracklist, and tour dates below.
