My Morning Jacket’s Jim James Announces Debut Solo LP
Regions of Light and Sound of God Out Feb. 5
Nov 12, 2012 Jim James
My Morning Jacket’s Jim James has announced his debut solo album, Regions of Light and Sound of God. Arriving Feb. 5 on ATO, the nine-track full-length was engineered by James and features him playing every instrument. According to a press release the record was largely inspired by Lynd Ward’s 1929 graphic novel God’s Man which “chronicles an artist’s struggles with temptation and corruption, along with finding true love.”
James says “Some of the things happening in the book were happening to me in real life, in a very strange and painful, then a very beautiful way. I wanted the album to sound like it came from a different place in time. Perhaps sounding as if it were the past of the future, if that makes any sense—like a hazy dream that a fully-realized android or humanoid capable of thought might have when it reminisces about the good old days of just being a simple robot.”
Available on CD, vinyl, or digitally, as well as a limited edition package featuring an autographed print, a T-shirt, a tote bag, and a keychain, the record features the single “Know Til Now,” which has been made available as a free download via the widget below. You can pre-order the album in its various forms at James’ website.
