Brothertiger (aka Brooklyn producer and musician John Jagos) has announced a new EP, A Chain of Islands, and we’re pleased to premiere its first single, “Shallow.” Chain of Islands is due out February 22 via Satanic Panic Recordings. “Opening out to me all around/Goin’ out to the wave/I’m holding out it’s coming down/Cycling over again,” Jagos croons on “Shallow” over a shimmering backdrop of analog synths and vintage beats. It’s an undulating track that grapples with the paradox of decay within growth and the nonlinear trajectory that development often takes. Jagos had this to say about the process for the new EP: “I spent the bulk of last two years writing and recording a bunch of new material to release in 2019. Some of it was arranged into this EP, and some of it will make it into another release later this year. With past releases, the process would be a lot more condensed, and all of the songwriting would have a goal of cohesiveness on one record. But for the past two years, I decided to just start writing and demoing, and seeing where the process would take me. There was a lot less pressure to constantly churn ideas out, and it helped me to keep a steady level of inspiration flowing.”

This EP marks Jagos’ first release of original Brothertiger music since 2015’s Out of Touch and follows 2017’s Tears for Fears Songs From The Big Chair cover album. In the interim period Jagos has been busy writing and recording-including releasing a digital-only EP last year under his other alias, Seafoam. Starting in late February of this year, Brothertiger will be hitting the road with Swedish dream-pop producer Summer Heart for a run of 16 dates that covers the East Coast and Midwest.
