Charles Watson, one half of British duo Slow Club with Rebecca Taylor, is releasing his debut solo album, Now That I’m a River, on May 18 via Moshi Moshi. Now he has shared a video for its single, the neo-soulish “Abandoned Buick.” Fittingly the video features Watson in the back of a car, although its one he’s also driving (down rainy English country lanes). Jacob Wyatt and Alistair Baines direct. Watch it below. Also below is “No Fanfare,” a song Watson shared back in November.
Watson had this to say about the video in a press release: “Although the new video for ‘Abandoned Buick’ may at first appear to be just some clever camera work, a clapped-out Mercedes and deceptive shots of my manager wearing exactly the same jacket as me. It is, in fact, evidence that I have successfully achieved my life long goal of having a touring clone, and just look at him go.”
Slow Club’s last album, One Day All of This Won’t Matter Anymore, came out in 2016 via Moshi Moshi.
Last year Watson’s Slow Club bandmate Rebecca Taylor released “Your Wife,” a solo song under the name Self Esteem. She also appears on the new album by Django Django, Marble Skies, guesting on the song “Surface to Air” and appearing in its video.
