SXSW (aka South By Southwest), the annual conference/festival in Austin, Texas, has announced the first round of artists to be performing during the music portion (there’s also film and interactive portions) in 2017. The list is short on big names, but a huge part of SXSW is discovering new artists. The full list is below and SXSW goes down March 10 - 19, 2017. Artists can still apply up until October 21.
In terms of speakers, writer/producer/director Lee Daniels has been announced as a Keynote Speaker. He’s behind the hit FOX hip-hop themed TV drama Empire and such movies as The Butler and Precious. Featured speakers include Cheryl Boone Isaacs, president of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, and music supervisor Randall Poster (known for his work with Wes Anderson, among others).
