Thomas Fekete, the guitarist for Surfer Blood, has been diagnosed with a rare form of cancer, sarcoma, which involves a tumor forming in the connective tissues of bones, muscles, tendons, cartilage, nerves, fat, and blood vessels. In Thomas’ case, the tumor formed in his abdomen and has been removed, although now the cancer has spread to his lungs and spine.

Since his form of cancer is so rare, there is very little research on it, so insurance will not cover all of the costs. Fekete is very hopeful in beating this and has found a group of doctors willing to treat him with an alternative treatment plan, along with radiation and chemotherapy. In order to pay for these procedures, Thomas has set up a GoFundMe page and is asking fans to donate as little or as much as they can, or even just spread the word if they can’t afford to donate. At the end of his treatment, any extra money raised will go to his doctor’s alternative cancer research to help beat this disease.

So far in just one day, Thomas has raised over $14,000 of his $76,000 goal. To help in his efforts of beating sarcoma, visit Thomas’ GoFundMe page at www.gofundme.com/sb22g7f.

Surfer Blood’s new album, 1000 Palms, is due out May 12 via Joyful Noise. Listen to one of the album’s singles, “I Can’t Explain,” below.
