Watch: Blur - “The Magic Whip: Made In Hong Kong” Album Making Of Documentary
"It was sort of a series of unfortunate events, I've been calling it, that got us to this point." - Graham Coxon
Blur's long-awaited new album, their first in 12 years, came out last week. Now the beloved Britpop veterans have released an album making of documentary titled The Magic Whip: Made In Hong Kong.
Since reforming the full original lineup in 2009 (guitarist Graham Coxon barely played on 2003's Think Tank and didn't tour that record), there has been talk of a new Blur album. In the documentary the band talks about their somewhat spontaneous initial five-day recording session in Hong Kong, how Coxon later brought in producer Stephen Street (who produced many of the band's classic albums) to shape the album, trying to keep the sessions secret to avoid heightened outside pleasure, and frontman Damon Albarn's search for lyrical inspiration. Included is footage of Albarn's trip to North Korea.
