Father John Misty (aka Josh Tillman) was the guest last night on Late Night With Seth Meyers. Not only did he perform “Things It Would Have Been Helpful To Know Before The Revolution,” he was also interviewed by Meyers, a rarity for indie musicians (Sub Pop says he’s the first of their artists to do a late night TV interview). And of course, Tillman was as funny and charming as you’d expect, joking about his name and an acting role he recently had (“I look like an actor who’s in the middle of a personal crisis right now”), and discussing his evangelical upbringing and an ill-fated musical he wrote. Watch the performance and interview below.

“Things It Would Have Been Helpful To Know Before The Revolution” is a song from Pure Comedy (released back in April via Sub Pop and Under the Radar‘s #1 Album of 2017 So Far) about how yuppies would deal with the aftermath of a true revolution. Tillman recently said he was almost done with his next album and that it would be due out in 2018.

Father John Misty appeared on the cover of Under the Radar‘s recent Spring 2017 Issue.

Pure Comedy is the follow-up to Father John Misty’s excellent 2015-released sophomore album, I Love You, Honeybear. I Love You, Honeybear, was Under the Radar’s #1 album of 2015. Consequently, Father John Misty was on the cover of our Best of 2015 print issue and you can read that cover story article here.
