Blood Orange‘s Devonté Hynes and Brydon Cook from Starchild & the New Romantic have formed a new band VeilHymn and recently shared their first song together, “Hymn.” Now the song has a video. Malia James directed the video, which was shot over two days in Kingston, Jamaica. Hynes and choreographer Juri Onuki (a frequent collaborator of his) cast locals, “each of whom brought a unique vibe and authenticity to the video,” according to a press release. Watch it below. Or go over to the band’s website to watch an interactive version of the video with exclusive behind the scenes content.

James had this to say about the video in a press release: “I’ve always been a massive fan of Malick Sidibe’s work and have wanted to pay tribute to him since his passing last year. Taking Dev and Bryndon’s ideas and merging my love of Sidibe, I wanted to explore the concept of creating a fictional, vintage time and place similar to the confident and carefree spirits that Sidibe has documented.”

“Hymn” features Cook on lead vocals, with production from Hynes. Starchild & the New Romantic have opened for Blood Orange before and Cook also appeared on Blood Orange’s acclaimed 2016 album, Freetown Sound, which was one of Under the Radar’s Top 100 Albums of 2016. “Hymn” is out now.
