The Flaming Lips: “Powerless” Video

A tied-up woman experiences some serious epileptic issues in the music video for The Flaming Lips’ “Powerless.” A monkey looks on as the shaky action unfolds. Pretty trippy (and slightly hot) stuff here, but it’s not nearly as NSFW as “Watch the Planets.” The dark Embryonic tune was directed by Lips frontman Wayne Coyne and George Salisbury. Starting on April 15, you can see the Lips’ infamous live show. (Via P4k.)

LCD Soundsystem: “Pow Pow” (Live at NYC’s Webster Hall) Video

Here comes yet another preview of music from LCD Soundsystem‘s eagerly antcipated third long-player, This Is Happening. This particular clip features the debut live performance of the slick, eight-minute track “Pow Pow.” The performance went down last night at a pre-Coachella shindig in New York City’s Webster Hall. The National

Band of Horses: “Laredo” MP3 Stream

Band of Horses’ latest country-rock song is called “Laredo” and is ostensibly about Laredo, Texas. Go here for more information on the Southwestern city.

Josh Ritter

“The Curse” (Daytrotter session) MP3

Apr 12, 2010

Moscow, ID folk-popper Josh Ritter recently swung by Daytrotter‘s recording studio, The Horseshack, for a stirring acoustic set of new tracks and classic numbers. One of the new cuts, “The Curse,” follows an unlikely, ill-fated romance between an undead mummy and an adventurous archaeologist. Only a songwriter like Ritter can twist a curio waltz into such a heartfelt tune. He pulls a similar trick during the new song, “Another New World,” which is also played during the session.

Other tracks performed include, “Best For the Best,” “You’ve Got the Moon,” “Moon River,” and “The Temptation of Adam.” So Runs the World Away comes out May 4 on Pytheas Recordings. Listen to its first single, “Change of Time.” Dates can be seen at Ritter’s site.

The Radio Dept.

“Never Follow Suit” MP3

Apr 10, 2010

Here’s the second legal MP3 from The Radio Dept.‘s third LP, Clinging to a Scheme. The album is out April 21, via the Swedish indie-pop imprint Labrador. Make sure to also check out the Thurston Moore-sampling “Heaven’s On Fire.” Both are wonderful examples of Swedish pop that keep the melody light and fluffy. These chilled-out melodies will hit the right spot when summer’s rays start hitting you. Pre-order the new album at INSOUND.
