Buzz-worthy rap unit Das Racist recently taped an episode of Our Show with Elliot Aronow at NYC venue Santos Party House. In the clip, Aronow asks the trio questions about Lady Gaga and her rumored Illuminati allegiances, Roger Ebert, Oprah Winfrey, “jungle fever,” hoodies, Kindles, Zunes, the color green, and the ‘90s sci-fi movie, The Fifth Element. Inspired by a broken heart, wrecked van, and Berlin, Telekinesis’ Michael Benjamin Lerner recorded the follow-up to debut album Telekinesis! under duress. The result, 12 Desperate Straight Lines (out February 15th via Merge), is a bass-driven ode to what the press release calls, “heartache, anger, and even a little hopefulness.” Check out the first single “Car Crash” above. Gorilla vs. Bear just premiered the first new mp3 off Acrylics‘ forthcoming debut album, Lives and Treasure, due out early 2011 via new imprint Hot Sand. The long-player features the lead single, “Trails”, which is available now as a free download. Expect a music video in early 2011. Midwest experimental rockers Volcano Choir (made up of Bon Iver‘s Justin Vernon and post-rock band Collections of Colonies of Bees), are touring Japan this month, performing Unmap‘s quality songs for the first time as a band. Their debut gig was Monday night at Tokyo’s Shibuya O-West ballroom, and some neat footage of the outfit playing “Island, IS” has been dug up by Fader. Watch it above.
