Jarvis Cocker‘s official site posted a remix by Parisian Pilooski of his single “You’re in My Eyes (Discosong),” a cut from this year’s Further Complications. Pilooski is best known for his D-i-r-t-y 12-inch edits series (the most popular being his version of Frankie Valli’s “Beggin’”) and his role in the Dirty Sound System collective. Jarvis is preparing for a U.S. tour and is on the cover of Under the Radar‘s Summer ‘09 issue, which is on stands now.

This past Sunday, Thom Yorke performed a 12-song solo set at Suffolk’s Latitude Festival. Read all about it here. At the very crowded Obelisk Arena, the Radiohead frontman, played a new song. The blogs are calling the sparse acoustic song “The Present Tense.” Yorke introduced the track by saying, “‘A new song, so you know, go for a piss.” The song was previously soundchecked at Radiohead concerts in Mexico and Toronto. Self-taught Brooklyn-via-Montréal multi-instrumentalist Julie Peel is releasing her debut full-length album, Near the Sun, September 22nd, on American Laundromat. The folk singer/songwriter was previously featured on ALR‘s tribute compilations, such as Just Like Heaven (The Cure), Gigantic (Kim Deal), Dig for Fire (The Pixies), and Cinnamon Girl (Neil Young), but Sun is Peel’s debut solo album. That’s the album artwork on the right there. On record, she’s joined on bass, cello and upright bass by Cyrille Catois and on drums by Andreas Dahlbäck. Her acoustic guitar-driven sound recalls the delicate whimsy of Mirah, lounge-y lilt of Feist, and the twilighted flurries of Sharon Van Etten. Here’s a delightfully sleepy track from the forthcoming LP, called “Unfold.” Peel has plans to tour much of the U.S. in the fall but has only a few NYC dates on her Myspace right now.

As previously reported, Vapours, the third release from Nick Diamonds’ indie pop project Islands, is due September 22nd from Anti-. Pitchfork had the first listen of the stripped down synthpop LP, with the funky “No You Don’t.” Think of it as diet version of Arm’s Way. (via Pitchfork)

The Polyphonic Spree posted a very rough acoustic demo for their upcoming longplayer, which will be released on the collective’s Good Records imprint. This is basically just lead Spree Tim DeLaughter and his acoustic guitar. Even in its current bare form, “Blurry” is a folk-y meditation that may attact people already sold either way on the group. Of course, for the album verison DeLaughter could slather horn blasts and lavish choral arrangements over the whole thing. In other Polyphonic news, Tim Delaughter received a 2009 Emmy nomination for his theme song for Showtime’s United States of Tara.

The hazy, tribal jam “Silver Trembling Hands” was the first new song The Flaming Lips played last night during their headlining set at the 2009 Pitchfork Music Festival. The second song played was the spacey, Can-esque, “Convinced of the Hex.” Both tracks and a third, entitled “The Impulse,” are on offer at The Flaming Lips’ website. Embryonic is out September 29th.
