If the summer already had enough blissed-out soundscapes to bask yourself in, here’s Atlas Sound‘s Bradford Cox (also of Deerhunter) and Animal Collective/Panda Bear cohort Noah Lennox to dump a bucketful of sunshine on our heads. The song is entitled"Walkabout” and it’s from Atlas Sound’s forthcoming LP Logos, due out October 20th on Kranky. (That’s Cox’s very naked/E.T. sighting body to the right, via Fader.) According to Pitchfork, the track surfaced after Cox toured with Animal Collective in Europe. While on the tour bus they played a themed iPod game. During one of the time wasting sessions somebody from AC played “What Am I Going to Do” by The Dovers. Cox became enamored with the organ, drum and electric bass hook and decided to sample it, with the aide of new friend/collaborator. Awww, how cute! Indie-rock Aussie quintet Dappled Cities (formerly Dappled Cities Fly) have a new single on offer through Spinner. The anti-war anthem “The Price” is from the group’s third ablum Zounds, which is being released on Dangerbird Records on September 15. There’s a dirtier sound on this track but than band assures that the rest of the album that turns out to be not much of a game-changer. Zounds is Dappled Cities’ first release after the depature of original member Hugh Boyce, who left the group to pursue a career in bio-mechanical engineering. Most of the new album was recorded in NYC and the fivesome’s homebase of Sydney. Their ‘Walls of Zounds’ tour is currently in full swing, with New South Wales punks The Philadelphia Grand Jury. Here’s another Balearic house track from Barcelona’s Delorean. The warm and lush “Seasun” is from their new AyrTon Senna EP, which is now available worldwide from the French label Fool House. Before that, it was only out on Mushroom Pillow. “Seasun” sounds just like its title would suggest. The bouncy handclaps and airy vocals evoke the feeling of parasailing over a lagoon. The track’s synths serve as the lapping waves on the shoreline. Also, be sure to check out Delorean’s remixes of The Big Pink‘s “Too Young to Love” and Lemonade‘s “Big Weekend.” Both are streaming at their Myspace.

The second LP from Gothenburg, Sweden’s mesmeric drum and vocals folk couple Wildbirds & Peacedrums, The Snake, comes out August 25. The MP3 (attached here) and self-directed video for standout single “There Is No Light” are both available as previews. “Light” showcases percussionist Andreas Werliin’s driving style and vocalist Mariam Wallentin’s lithe, yet stentorian delivery. Wallentin’s “flashes before your eyes” description of the drumwork in the press sheet seems esepcially apt here. Calling this track ‘tribal’ only grazes the surface. W & P are on tour in Europe this summer.

It sounds crazy but Paul McMcartney’s never performed on Letterman before. Here he gets his chance with a run-through of The Beatles classic, “Get Back” last night. The performance had some nostalgic echoes to The Beatles last performance on the Apple’s headquarters roof, as Paul and his crew jammed from atop the Ed Sullivan theater marquee. After the very faithful live performance of “Get Back,” the band also played The Fireman cut “Sing the Changes,” from his latest electronic project with Killing Joke‘s Martin Glover (née Youth). Understandbly, a very large crowd gathered on the streets of New York for the short performance. “Coming Up,” “Band On the Run,” “Let Me Roll It”/“Purple Haze,” “Helter Skelter,” and “Back In the USSR” were also played but weren’t broadcasted.

On August 4th Fruit Bats release their fourth album, The Ruminant Band, on their longtime label home Sub Pop. This title track makes good on frontman Eric D. Johnson’s recent message board promise: “We are going to choogle for you.” “The Ruminant Band” is certainly a raucous good time for the bluesy folk-rockers. And yes I had to look up ‘choogle’ on Urban Dictionary.

Former War on Drugs leader Kurt Vile signed to Matador earlier this year and he’s got big plans. His sophomore solo release, Childish Prodigy, is dropping October 6th. For those that can’t wait, Matador is offering the first echo-y track today, “Overnite Religion.” Kurt’s treated vocals float over a coiling guitar riff.
